They say that we cannot teach what we do not know and we cannot give what we do not have. This is what I’ve realized during my practice teaching. I’ve learned that, preparedness and readiness is a must probably because you’re only just a student teacher not a teacher yet and you don’t have that extent knowledge in teaching the subject area. So, preparation is the best key in all circumstances that you might encounter. Honestly, the real scenario is different from what you imagine as you do your lesson plan. But there’s nothing wrong in being prepared and ready at all times as long as you’re ready enough from what will happen during that they. But the good thing is that the students learn from you and at the same time you learn also from your students.

To be a pre-service teacher is not that easy to deal with especially in my case, in the sense that I’m a biology student teacher but during my first day of teaching I was surprised with my load because it’s not that easy to teach the subject chemistry in Grade 8 and physics in Grade 7 since it is not my field of specialization. This is due to the K-12 curriculum that we have today. How can I surpass this kind of situation? As teacher you must be flexible in every situation and in every scenario. Every day is a big challenge for me. I need to prepare 2 lesson plans plus the visual aids, so most of the night is a sleepless night just to finish the lesson plan and visual aids to be used for the following day. Aside from that, I need to wake up early in the morning to study the lesson that I will teach on that day. I can’t imagine if I can do this throughout the period of the off-campus teaching but as the time goes by I learn to love the situation, I learn to love my busy schedule. Every day is a busy day in checking the quizzes, activity notebook and the outputs of the students. Even in the vacant period you’ll go to spend it for checking the outputs. But every end of the day is a fulfilment as you finish the lesson within that day and when you saw your students that they learn something from you.

To be good, listen. Listen to what your critic teacher told you to do so. To be better, study. Study your lesson first before you face your students. To be best, teach.  Teach as to extent of your ability and knowledge and share everything what you have learned.

“Your mind is a garden. Your thoughts are the seeds. You can grow flowers or you can grow seeds.” In relation to education, as a pre-service teacher, we are the molder of our learner whatever learnings we impart to them could affect their lives it’s either positive or negative.

Practice teaching is stressful and hard to deal with but the best thing about it is that it change me a lot from what I’ve experience and from the learnings I gain to that experience.

A Fulfilling Experience
